Barbell Standing Back Wrist Curl
The barbell standing back wrist curl is a barbell exercise that targets the forearms, with the biceps and shoulders assisting.
How to do the barbell standing back wrist curl
- Stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a barbell with an overhand grip.
- Rest the barbell on the back of your hands with your palms facing down and your fingers pointing towards your body.
- Keeping your upper arms stationary, exhale and curl your wrists upwards as far as possible.
- Hold the contracted position for a brief pause, then inhale and slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Sets and reps
For muscle growth, 3–4 sets of 8–12 reps with 60–90 seconds of rest is a proven starting point. For strength, use a heavier weight for 3–5 sets of 3–6 reps and rest 2–3 minutes. Add a little weight once you hit the top of your rep range on every set.
Muscles worked
The main muscle is the forearms. The biceps and shoulders work as secondary muscles. See all forearm exercises or every barbell exercise.
