Cable Standing Fly
The cable standing fly is a cable exercise that targets the chest (pectorals), with the deltoids and triceps assisting.
How to do the cable standing fly
- Attach the handles to the cables at chest height.
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, facing away from the cable machine.
- Grasp the handles with an overhand grip, palms facing forward.
- Step forward slightly to create tension in the cables.
- Keep your core engaged and your back straight throughout the exercise.
- With a slight bend in your elbows, slowly bring your arms forward and together in front of your chest.
- Squeeze your chest muscles at the peak of the movement.
- Slowly reverse the movement, returning your arms to the starting position.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Sets and reps
For muscle growth, 3–4 sets of 8–12 reps with 60–90 seconds of rest is a proven starting point. For strength, use a heavier weight for 3–5 sets of 3–6 reps and rest 2–3 minutes. Add a little weight once you hit the top of your rep range on every set.
Muscles worked
The main muscle is the chest (pectorals). The deltoids and triceps work as secondary muscles. See all chest exercises or every cable exercise.
