How to do the overhead triceps stretch
- Stand or sit upright with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Extend one arm overhead, bending at the elbow so that your hand reaches towards the opposite shoulder blade.
- With your other hand, gently pull the elbow of the extended arm towards the opposite side of your head, feeling a stretch in your triceps.
- Hold the stretch for 15-30 seconds, then release.
- Repeat on the other side.
Sets and reps
Hold each stretch for 20–40 seconds, breathing slowly, and repeat 2–3 times per side. Stretch to mild tension, never pain.
Muscles worked
The main muscle is the triceps. The shoulders work as secondary muscles. See all triceps exercises or every bodyweight exercise.
