Weighted Russian Twist
The weighted russian twist is a weighted exercise that targets the abs, with the obliques and lower back assisting.
How to do the weighted russian twist
- Sit on the ground with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
- Hold a weight or medicine ball with both hands in front of your chest.
- Lean back slightly, keeping your back straight and your core engaged.
- Slowly twist your torso to the right, bringing the weight or medicine ball towards the floor on your right side.
- Pause for a moment, then twist your torso to the left, bringing the weight or medicine ball towards the floor on your left side.
- Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions.
Sets and reps
For muscle growth, 3–4 sets of 8–12 reps with 60–90 seconds of rest is a proven starting point. For strength, use a heavier weight for 3–5 sets of 3–6 reps and rest 2–3 minutes. Add a little weight once you hit the top of your rep range on every set.
Muscles worked
The main muscle is the abs. The obliques and lower back work as secondary muscles. See all ab exercises or every weighted exercise.
